He first started working for Sir Speedy in the early 1980s as Assistant to then President, Don Lowe, and was Managing Director of the Sir Speedy master license in the U.K. prior to returning to New Zealand to work in a senior management position for the Eastman Kodak Company. Quote – John Bowen “We would also appreciate if could send us a 3-4 line quote on how you feel franchising could be relevant/growing strategy for the Indian marketplace from an international context ,as we will be using the same for media handouts.” From an international perspective, there is little doubt that franchising is an ideal vehicle for the India market. The franchise model provides for international transfer of a proven business methodology based on adherence to processes and systems that have been adapted for local market conditions. Provided that the franchise owner can bring capital, education and entrepreneurial energy and the business methodology is followed closely, brand awareness can be quickly established and the chances for success, profitability and expansion are greatly enhanced. |

Abhay Gupta Executive Director Mr. Abhay Gupta is the Executive Director of Blues Clothing Company. His association with BCC dates back to the mid 1990s, during the formative years of then, 'The Blues'. During those days, he acted as an external consultant to Mr. Dinesh Sehgal, proprietor of The Blues, guiding him towards acquiring a more futuristic approach for his company. Things changed as soon as The Blues decided to shed off its ‘family-backed’ image to pick up a more contemporary and professional identity. This was the time, when Mr. Gupta could not put down the request offer from Mr. Sehgal to join Blues Clothing Company as a guiding force….and hence start a new saga together. It has been a concerted approach between the visionary Mr. Sehgal and the workaholic Mr. Gupta to passionately carve out a new identity for BCC and take it to newer heights of excellence. The incisive business knowledge of Mr. Gupta, gained through his long experience in the apparel industry, not only helped him to strategise the right moves to rope in leading international brands at BCC, but also to help the erstwhile Blues expand from a single level to a multi-level and eventually to a multi-location retail network. Mr. Gupta has also helped in modernising the operations at BCC – from computerisation of the sales to inventory control; he has masterminded every single move with a focussed objective to move with the times. Mr. Abhay Gupta has spent a larger part of his childhood days growing up in Kolkata. After completing his schooling from Central School (Fort William) at Kolkata, he pursued a degree in Marine Engineering from DMET, Kolkata. He then started his career out in the sea, back in 1978. Later he moved out of the monotonous marine life and pursued an MBA through a distance-learning program at Ghaziabad. The business acumen developed through this phase of his life, helped him to move into a more dynamic ready to wear industry and he joined Stencil Apparel Brands in 1990. From there he moved on to become the Vice President (Operations) at KB+T (now known as Givo). Mr. Gupta believes that although the Indian retail industry has seen an upward boom in the past decade or so. Within the overall retail scenario, Luxury has evolved into a dependent category and positioning segment. Advent of spaces like Emporio has upgraded the retail space offering in totality and even an economic slowdown could not completely slow down the growth considerably. He feels that in this era of market capitalisation, bigger retailers would try to consolidate their positions by expanding further on or acquiring smaller players. His vision for BCC is to prominently make it the largest player in the field of luxury retailing. |

Aadyant is where education is about imparting knowledge, its about encouraging children to do significant things with what they’ve learnt. Our first initiative has been in the pre-school segment. We have 2 pre-schools in the NCR region, one is an owned school in South Delhi sprawling over an acre with excellent facilities and most importantly researched and practically sound curriculum which includes Montessori as well as activity based learning techniques. We at Aadyant are looking to set up 50 more pre-schools across India over the next 5 years and since our focus is quality, these will be relatively large-scale premium schools. A child’s development depends on parents and teachers; thus our second initiative is the Aadyant Training Institute, which will offer training programs for parents and teachers that will help in enhancement of their knowledge and thereby the development of the child. These programs will be offered at our pre-school locations as well as other locations.
