Essar Energy plans franchise expansion

Essar Energy, an integrated Indian energy company is planning to raise the count of its retail fuel outlets to 1,700 by April 2011. Currently, the company has 250 retail fuel outlets under construction to be launched pan India. The new outlets will be opened via franchise route. The company operates through 1,385 franchised retail fuel outlets across India for selling gasoline and gas-oil under the Essar brand.
Earlier, in November 2010, Essar announced its plans to further increase the capacity of the refinery to 20 mmtpa, or 405,000 barrels per stream day. The company expects to achieve the additional capacity by optimisation of some of its refinery units at an estimated cost of Rs 17 billion (c. US$379 million). The project is scheduled for completion by September 2012.
