Industry experts share pearls of wisdom
Mumbai FRO and Startup Summit 2013, a franchise and retail opportunity show had a successful run with 150+ national and international brands and 7000 visitors thronging to be a part of this high networking platform with an objective of exchanging ideas and charting out business opportunities.

THE Xth startup Summit Mumbai 2013, which took place on 18th-19th May, at Nehru Centre, Worli, saw a tremendous contribution from industry experts as they spoke on the various genres of starting up a business and being one's own boss. The conference was initiated with the remarkable presence of the Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker B S Nagesh, Founder, TRRAIN, and Parvathy Ramaswamy, Chairperson FICCI as she addressed the future mompreneurs on starting and growing up a business.

Day one: How to manage a business
The Startup Summit on Day one had a series of industry experts from retail, F&B, beauty and others, who not only shared their knowledge but also guided the delegates on catalysing and managing a business. The conference was organised and managed with the extensive support of Sachin Marya, President, Franchise India; Ritu Marya, Editor-in-Chief, The Franchising World, and Ashna G Sharan, CEO, Franchise India.

Speaking about the various opportunistic businesses in 2013 the conference saw the presence of retail kings such as Asif Mechant, MD, Catwalk Worldwide, Manish Kapoor, COO, French Connection & Brand Marketing India, Santosh Srivastava, MD, Gitanjali Jewels Retail, who discussed and analysed the perspective of West Indian consumers. The session was moderated by Kumara Rajagopalan, CEO, RAI. Following it the other sessions saw the deliberations among great panelists like Pushkaraj Shenai, CEO, Lakme Lever, Anurag kedia, Director, Four Fountain Spa, Rajesh Srinivas, President, Core Wellness group, and Falguni Nayyar, Founder,, who as the leader of the beauty industry helped the delegates understand the industry insights. Dheeraj Gupta, MD, Jumbo king, Nanette D'Sa, CEO, Indian Cookery Pvt. Limited, Chetan Arora, Development Agent & multi-unit Owner, Subway India, discussed about building of food brands and how to start a food business via franchising. Rahul Jagtiani, Founder, and Sumat Chopra from talked about the biggest market-driving opportunity of 2013 i.e. E-retail.

Day two: marketing tactics & opportunities in education
Day two had power packed sessions where the speakers talked largely on marketing tactics, building a good team and the booming education business opportunity. Naresh Mehta, Director, Retail, Raymonds Ltd., Bankim D. Mistery, President, Bombay Small, Industries Association, Pradeep Udhas, Partner, KPMG, President, TiE Mumbai were among the prominent speakers. Day two also witnessed a session on marketing that was addressed by Brand Guru Jagdeep Kapoor, MD, Samsika Consultants. In another session, Anil Joshi, Head of Operations, Mumbai Angels, and Ravi Tyagi, General Manager, SIDBI, spoke on the complex investment subjects to make them simpler. Taking further charge of the private equity firms and investors were Deep Mishra, MD, Everstone Capital, Narayan Mantri, CEO, Proteus Advisors, Nitish Agarwal, Sr Principal, Milestone Religare Investment Advisors, Vivek N Joshi, Pvt Equity Professional as they discussed the bigger picture of evaluating and growing one's business. The other industry gurus who supported the conference immensely with their expert talks were Raj Grover, Chief Mentor, KKEL, Amit Singh, SBU-Head, Euro Kids, Dr ABHIJIT PHADNIS,Director, Giltedge Financial Counsel Pvt.
