Imprinting fingers to print profits Finding inborn talent and personality traits through people’s finger prints, is a brand called Thumbrule Technologies. The company has opted franchise growth model and in an interaction, Karan Behl, Managing Director, Thumbrule Technologies shares his experience of participation at FRO, Mumbai.

Namita Bhagat (NB): Brief us about the origin and development of your company and how did the company opt for franchise route?

Karan Behl (KB): Thumbrule Technologies which was started in collaboration with Singapore based research centre less than a year back with a unique concept of DMIT (Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence Test) which is a scientific study of Finger print ridges to find out the inborn talent, preferred learning style, multiple intelligence distribution and many other aspects of one’s personality. When we started this in India we knew that for this kind of business, we need association of lot of energetic people. Since it is a unique concept launched for the first time in India and we found franchising as the best way to go ahead. The franchise route has helped us to select the right people from the field of education to spread awareness about the need of career counselling based on children’s aptitude and inborn potential. The franchise model has also helped us to cover the length and breadth of our country and our franchisees, backed by well trained Psychologists and Counsellors are helping parents to raise their children successfully after discovering their child’s hidden potential and personality.

NB: Promotional strategy is a part and parcel of brand’s appropriate growth. Kindly elaborate on the approach your company adopts to enhance its reach.

KB: We have two types of promotional strategies. One is for Franchise Network Expansion and other one is for Business Development. Currently, we are using print media, online marketing and Franchise India exhibitions for network expansion. For business development, our main strategy is to hold seminars in schools, colleges and other places where you can find lot of parents since our target customer is parents although the consumer is children. We are also using print media/online marketing for this purpose. We have also tied up with an event management company for promotional activities in 5000 schools across India. Currently, we along with Big Bazaar are sponsoring few very important events in Hyderabad where we can get lot of brand mileage. We are also planning to conduct workshops and seminars on Positive Parenting for Parents, How to use Multiple Intelligences in the class rooms for teachers, Talent Search Programs and Online counselling by our experts to students in distress and giving presentations to Educational Institutions and Human Resource Sector for pre employment screening.

NB: Your company has participated in FRO Mumbai. What factors inspired you to participate in the event?

KB: We are participating in Franchise India shows right from Delhi-2010 FRO. We found this as a very good medium since we get to interact with the right audience. After Delhi, we participated in Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur and even UAE show. FRO gives us the opportunity to witness various reputed Indian and global brands under one roof in order to understand the prevailing and emerging trends in franchise route. We were looking forward to the innovative ideas and business concepts, the marketing strategies shared by the eminent speakers.

NB: Share your experience of being one of the participating companies at FRO.

KB: Our experience of participating at FRO is very good since we have touched a network of about 50 franchisees from a meager 4-5 franchise when we started participating. Probably, we are one of the very few companies in the FRO who have signed agreements on the spot including the country franchise deal for UAE. Having Participating in FRO has always been very informative and insightful experience to gain tremendous knowledge about franchise business. Being part of FRO gives you a common platform to share experiences with the enterprising entrepreneurs from diverse fields and learn how to expand Franchising oriented businesses in an efficient and profitable manner.

NB: How do you think the brands’ participation in the event would contribute to the brand’s growth?

KB: As I mentioned above, it give us lot of visibility and we get a chance to meet the right audience. Apart from being noticed by entrepreneurs, brand gets noticed by lot of big corporate. We are getting lot of queries from big investors and from international market who wants to be a part of our growth story. Another definite advantage is networking. We get a chance to meet many entrepreneurs and come across lot of new ideas.

NB: What advice would you like to give to the entrepreneurs and investors aspiring to participate in the show to get maximum benefits from it?

KB: I would like to suggest to all the aspiring entrepreneurs and investors to attend this event with an open mind and a positive attitude. This world class event will give you a platform to display your products and services to a captive audience.

The event also provides an invaluable opportunity to meet and interact with eminent and enterprising speakers in an environment dedicated to business expansion, growth, emerging trends in the franchise market, enormous business opportunity concepts related to Indian and International market and how franchise module can help them grow their business aggressively.
